ZARA HOOGENRAAD CROWNED BIG AIR WORLD CHAMPION
A HISTORIC WIN AT THE GKA BIG AIR WORLD CUP
We are thrilled to announce that Zara Hoogenraad has triumphed at the GKA Big Air World Cup Gran Canaria! Zara's extraordinary performance culminated in a breathtaking boogie double loop as her final move in the competition. This spectacular achievement has earned her the prestigious title of World Champion, marking a significant milestone in her career and a proud moment for CORE.
“Before the final jump, I knew I had to do a sick trick,” said an emotional Hoogenraad, whose boyfriend, men’s Big Air competitor Giel Vlugt, was supporting her from the shore. “I wasn’t sure what to do, and Giel yelled to do a boogie double loop. I had never done one before. It’s never been done by a woman in competition. But I thought, if that’s what I have to do to win a world title, I will do it. I looked to my kite mid-jump, saw the second loop, and kept going for it.”
Full commitment, exceptional skill, and unwavering determination earned her an incredible score of 9.53 points in that winning move. This remarkable performance secured both the event win and the title of GKA Big Air Twintip Kite Women’s World Champion 2024.
The competition was fierce, and CORE was well-represented by our outstanding team. Nora Klement and Jasmine Cho delivered stunning performances, advancing all the way to the semi-finals. Maria Beatriz Silva made a strong impression in her first international competition, flying in from Brazil.
Young talent Shahar Tsabary showcased his immense potential, reaching the semi-finals alongside teammate Giel Vlugt. Both not only delivered excellent performances on the water but also demonstrated great team spirit outside their heats. Newcomer Arian Braeutigam, who joined through a wildcard entry, also displayed promising talent.
Congratulations to Zara and all our riders for their dedication and hard work. We are proud to share these moments and look forward to many more victories together!
